14 DAY TRIAL // Sony Santa Monica apparently has no plans to remaster any of the other installments in the God of War series and bring them to the PlayStation 4, in addition to GoW3.
The studio has announced that God of War 3 will be making its way to the PS4 computer entertainment system from Sony, ported to 1080p resolution, sometime this July, and has stated that it's likely the only game in the franchise to receive this treatment.
Replying to the community's comments, a Sony Santa Monica representative has mentioned that the studio does not currently have any plans to port other titles in the franchise, which means that a collection is likely out of the question.
Last week's announcement heralded a "retina-popping thrill ride" aimed at newcomers and regulars alike, enabling them to experience the exploits of Kratos in 1080p and at 60 frames per second, and to tide them over until the next entry in the franchise is ready to ship.
More exciting God of War news to come
God of War Creative Director Cory Barlog has confirmed that a new God of War game is currently in development, but that further details will only be revealed within a year or two. That means that it’ll still be a while until the game is ready to step into the spotlight, hence why Sony has not yet formally announced the title.
Expect to see God of War 3 land on the PS4 around mid-July, coming in both digital and retail editions. Just like Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Remastered, the initiative is meant to enable newcomers to the PlayStation family to enjoy one of the most exciting exclusives of the PS3 console.
This is similar to what 343 Industries and Microsoft did with Halo: The Master Chief Collection, releasing the first four entries in the Halo franchise on the Xbox One, which led many to wonder why the studio opted to only release the last GoW game.
God of War 3 was launched back in 2010, following Kratos inflicting his revenge on the Olympian Gods and dethroning Zeus, thus ending their reign. The gameplay focuses on combo-based combat and quick time events, where players have to follow a series of actions in order to defeat huge bosses.
