Reverend Fred Phelps warns singer’s fans of being led to corruption

Lady Gaga has been named by several publications the hottest singer of 2009, an artist who managed to forge her own sound and style, thus bringing a breath of fresh air on the pop scene. She is also famous for her fashion sense and the out of the ordinary outfits she usually dons in public. For Reverend Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church, though, all these are signs that Gaga is Satan’s way of getting new acolytes, as he more than makes it clear in a press statement.

Using citations and his own words, Rev. Phelps is out on a mission to show the world what Gaga really is, because all the distinctions bestowed on her this past year (including that of trendsetter) are nothing but euphemisms for the awful truth: God hates Gaga and she’s perdition for her own fans. Moreover, the Reverend and the Westboro Baptist Church are not stopping here with the manifest, as a plan to boycott Gaga’s January 7 performance at Fox Theater is also in place.

“‘Art’ and ‘fashion’ are the euphemisms, the guise under which proud [expletive] Lady Gaga teaches rebellion against God (incidentally, her claim to the title of ‘lady’ is sound only if she tacks on ‘of the night,’ thereby alluding to another euphemism of what she is.) As much as she’d like to pretend otherwise, there’s nothing new or different about this particular [expletive]’s pretentious prancing. Does the simple [expletive] truly think that she can change God’s standards by seducing a generation of rebels into joining her in fist-raised, stiff-necked, hard-hearted rebellion against Him? Get real!” the Reverend rages in the press statement made available online.

“Even as she gives lip-service to ‘liberating’ her young fans, Lady Gaga brings them into slavery to their own corruption, teaching them to glory in their shame. She hates you! ‘For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness… While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption!’ 2 Pet. 2:18-19 YOU’RE GOING TO HELL,” the statement further reads.

Lady Gaga has not responded in any way yet to the press statement and the call for boycott. Chances are, in fact, she will not even deign to go public with her thoughts on the matter, given her penchant for causing controversy, which is also part of her showbiz persona. Her fans, though, are not taking this in serious, many of them already taking to the Internet to point out just how ridiculous the entire “boycott” thing is.
