You can now get your hands on the latest release of GoblinX Standard 2.7, which has been brought to you after more than four months of work. The prior stable release, GoblinX 2.6, was released sometime in mid-February - on the 18th, to be more precise.

The first ISO of GoblinX Standard was released at the end of October 2004. If you are one of the GoblinX users, you probably still remember the good ol' days... Anyway, this release sports not one, not two, but five window managers! If you're a GNOME fan, I have bad news for you: GNOME is not one of the five window managers included on GoblinX 2.7. You get only KDE, Xfce, Enlightenment, Fluxbox and WindowMaker.

Since its first release candidate (RC 01), GoblinX 2.7 has changed into a better operating system, as the developers took care of some small errors and nasty bugs. They patched the security holes they discovered and some libraries were upgraded. A GUI was added to deactivate a script and let anyone remove modules from the LiveCD. Slapt-getrc now comes with an extra repository, full with media packages. Speaking of repositories, some extra folders were included to be used as package repository. X.org was modified to allow direct autologin as user for the installed system. Modules can be created through the module building interface for Slapt-get.

When you will be using Xfce, you will notice that it will automatically check for package upgrades with the Xfce-smartpm plugin that was added in this edition of GoblinX 2.7.

Before downloading GoblinX 2.7, you should know that it is as excellent as its base system - Slackware - and it was created by Flavio de Oliveira with the help of Linuxlive scripts. Its easy to use and beautiful interface, with the most useful applications included, will surely make you appreciate GoblinX 2.7.
