Flavio Pereira de Oliveira announced today the third release of his popular Slackware-based Live CD Linux distribution, GoblinX, also known as G:Standard. GoblinX 3.0 used to have five desktop managers, but it appears that Flavio decided to keep only one, the K Desktop Environment. With the KDE4 on board, this distribution offers stability and good looks on a bootable Live CD ISO image.

"In the past the GoblinX Standard included five windows managers and also support for five languages, but G:Standard is now the KDE distribution of our project, and because the limited space it includes only the default engligh [sic] language.
In the future the distribution which will replace G:Standard when we finally start the new project will not anymore be a livecd, instead it will be a livedvd. If you need another language you need to download the respective package in our repository inside kdei folder." - said Flavio Pereira de Oliveira in the official release announcement.

Highlights of GoblinX 3.0:

· KDE 4.2.4 desktop environment;
· Opera 10 web browser (with support for Slik/Webmount);
· Improvements to the KDE 4 desktop;
· Updated X.Org;
· Updated various packages;
· Fixed many bugs and errors;
· Added various applications;
· Added some GTK+2 applications;
· Many other improvements and modifications...

However, there are a couple of unresolved bugs. For example, GoblinX 3.0 has no possibility of running inside FAT32 formatted USB sticks because the KDE4 desktop environment fails to start if the system uses Posixovl to save the changes. Moreover, even if the developers updated the X.Org packages, it appears that there is an issue with the Intel video driver (xf86-video-intel), which does not work well with Linux kernel 2.6.27. Experienced users can change the a.NX11-3.0-i486-1.lzm package with the a.NX11-3.0-i486-2.lzm one and rebuild the ISO image. The second package includes an old version of the X.Org server, which works well with Intel video cards. The a.NX11-3.0-i486-2.lzm package can be downloaded from here.

GoblinX used to be one of the most beautiful distors out there. But now, based at this article, I see only bugs, typos (wait a few seconds of press F2 for verbose mode) and lack of polish. Maybe I'll give it a virtual try, though.

Yes it is :) Yes, that issue is related to the video card... you must install the video drivers.
