Good Old Games, the special digital distribution service ran by CD Projekt Red, has begun making the changes it teased since last year, starting with the introduction of pre-orders and the arrival of special Premium Edition games.

Good Old Games was first started as a service that distributed classic games without any sort of anti-piracy (DRM) software, that were capable of running on current computers and operating systems.

As the service grew in popularity, CD Projekt Red announced that it will soon start selling more recent games through the service, in order to increase its user base.

These changes have now appeared, thanks to the introduction of the first two Premium Edition games, in the form of Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut Edition and the Heroes of Might and Magic V bundle.

These two great games that appeared a few years ago include not only the standard editions but also extra content, like the Director’s Cut one for Assassin’s Creed, or the expansions for Heroes V, Hammer of Fate and Tribes of the East.

Until April 12, those interested in the two games can get them for a total of $19.99 (€15.2) as part of a “buy one, get one free” promotion. After April 12, each will cost $19.99.

GoG’s changes also include the addition of pre-orders, and users can now pre-purchase Botanicula, the newest point and click adventure game from Amanita Design, the indie studio behind Machinarium.

In order to keep players hooked on the GoG experience and show that the service will still deliver great classic titles, CD Projekt Red has also made the original Fallout 1 RPG completely free.

Users only need to check out the game’s page and add it to their library. Act fast, however, as the offer will expire soon enough.

What do you think about GoG’s overhaul? Is the addition of new games a great thing or should it continue focusing on classic titles?
