PC manufacturer 1 Beyond has just announced an update to its GoFlex317 notebook, a machine primarily aimed at the graphics specialists and hardcore gamers. The new system packs hardware that is worthy of a desktop system in a portable form factor.

The new GoFlex317 notebook is not just a refresh of an already existing product, as it comes with completely new technical specifications, including quad-core chips, RAID 5 storage and GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics cards. The notebook is somewhat similar to Rock Computer's Xtreme SL8 series of power laptops.

However, the GoFlex317 is world's first mobile offering to be built around Intel's quad-core Q6600 and Q6700 desktop chips running at 2.4 and 2.66 GHz, respectively. The processors are powerful enough to offer increased performance for high-definition graphics processing.

More than that, in order to keep the HD spirit alive, the GoFlex317 comes with three hard-disk drives with RAID 5 support and 7200 rotations per minute. Graphics professionals and gamers will surely enjoy the Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 PCI Express graphics card with 512 MB of dedicated video memory.

The built-in DVI connector is ready to shift action to a secondary monitor at a maximum resolution of 1,920 by 1,200 pixels. Other specifications include support for up to 4 GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 connector, four USB 2.0 ports and a single FireWire port for facile data downloads from a digital camera, Dolby Surround Sound with four-speaker sound system, 7.1 192 KHz/32-bit audio, 7-in-1 card reader, an 8? dual-layer DVD burner, as well as an Express Card slot.

According to the company, the new mobile offerings will be available in either WIndows XP or Vista flavors, bundled with a plethora of professional software, such as Adobe Creative Suite 3, Avid Express Pro with Mojo, and Grass Valley Edius.

The impressive configuration is available immediately. However, the notebook is designed especially for high-definition video production and post-production work, rather than for the average consumer. The notebook sells for a starting price of $6,595.
