Carrying around data in a safe manner is important to all of us, but it would seem that some people have decided to take safety to the next level. Thus, a company called R&D Electronics has even taken into consideration the possibility of a nuclear fallout, and launched the IronDrive, a portable storage solution that can withstand just about anything you might throw at it, including what they call "nuclear stresses".

Thus, according to the company, this interesting little gadget has been tested for high temperature, shock, vibration, caustic agents, submersion, EMI, and nuclear stresses, being a very interesting solution for both military and commercial environments. And the people over at R&D Electronics are not kidding around with words, since some of the suggested applications include ground vehicle data logging, data recorders for unmanned vehicles and even telemetry / flight recorders for missiles.

Here are some of the most important features and specs this nuclear-proof flash drive has to offer:

- dimensions: 10.16 cm x 4 cm x 4 cm; - weight: 164 grams; - storage capacity: 32 MB to 4 GB; - reading speed: 20 MB/s; - writing speed: 10 MB/s; - reliability: MTBF up to 4.66 million hours, rated to 5,000,000 write/erase cycles; - encryption provisions: DES/3DES, SHA-1, RSA, AES; - shock resistance: up to 9G; - compatible operating systems: Win XP Embedded, Win POS, Win CE, Win XP Pro, Linux, VxWorks; - interface: USB 2.0.

As we might have expected, there's no official word on the IronDrive's possible price tag on the company's website, but one thing's for sure: this thing might outlast even you (and your computer) in case of a nuclear attack, but, then again, will there be any computers left to download the data to after such a dramatic event?

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
