Gmail's Priority Inbox feature has been a great hit it seems. So far, the ones that have used have provided mostly positive feedback and, while Google is not done tweaking and improving it, the initial signs look good.

It's no surprise then that people wanted to use the priority inbox everywhere, especially on the go where you don't want to be swifting through hundreds of email messages. Thankfully, the latest version of the Gmail Android app adds support for the time-saving feature.

Note that Priority Inbox has had some support on mobile devices in the web version of Gmail so this is not a completely new feature.

But if you're more accustomed to using the app version you can now take advantage of the feature too. The app version comes with more functionality too.

"You told us that you love Priority Inbox and expect much better support for it on your phone. Now you can see important messages in a new Priority Inbox view," Paul Westbrook from the Gmail for Android team, wrote.

So far, if you had Priority Inbox enabled, you could access emails from the Priority Inbox on your mobile devices by selecting the "Important" label. But you had no way of selecting what messages were important and what weren't.

With the new Android app, you can access just your Priority Inbox. All the messages, regardless if you've read them or not will be displayed. You can also mark a message as important, so that Priority Inbox will display it and similar ones in the future. At the same time, you can mark a message as un-important if it's of no interest to you.

Still, not all of the features from the regular desktop version have been added. For example, you can't see the explanation for why a message was deemed important, like you can in the latest update to the Priority Inbox in regular Gmail. However, the Android team says it will add more features and functionality in future releases.
