Gmail is finally coming to the iPhone and iPad in the form of a native application almost three years after Apple began approving third-party applications.

MG Siegler (of TechCrunch) reveals in a blog entry that a native Gmail client is pending approval in the Apple App Store for iOS devices.

His sources say the client is awesome-looking and that it’s got killer features to boot. These include Push Notifications, a Priority Inbox, and one-click starring of messages.

Other potential features that could improve the lives of Gmail fans wielding an iOS device include contact icons, better threading, deep searching functionality, and maybe even some Google+ integration, all of which is about to be implemented in the web-based service.

The application should be approved and launched relatively soon, according to the report.
