A new version of Gmail for Android is now available for download from the Android Market, with new features and enhancements included into the mix.

Android users who need to access their Gmail accounts while on the go will certainly find it easier to do so via the new flavor of the dedicated client that Google made available for their devices.

In addition to a range of improvements brought to the application's performance, the new release also comes with important battery savings through the syncing of only priority mail.

Moreover, the new version of the mobile client will offer users the possibility to set up filters and ringtones for the various labels they have in their inbox.

The release notes for the new application iteration include:

- Save bandwidth and battery by only syncing priority mail - Use label notifications to mash up filters, labels, and ringtones - Remember ‘Show Pictures’ for senders - Turn off sticky message actions in landscape or all orientations - Better TalkBack support for accessibility - Performance improvements.

The new flavor of Gmail for Android is available for download via the Android Market here. It offers support for all handsets that run under the Android 2.2 – 2.3.3 operating system versions.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the application offers full access to Gmail features, including the possibility to read and create emails, search messages, and more.

With this application, all new emails are being automatically pushed to the phone, not to mention that messages are synced so that users can access them on the go even when offline. With Gmail for Android, users are also offered the possibility to access multiple accounts at the same time.

In the Android Market, Google explains that this is “the dedicated Gmail application integrated with Contacts and Android applications,” and that some of the main features it has to offer include “push, sync, conversations, integration, search,” and more.
