Google has just updated its Gmail application for Android devices. The new version promises consistent improvements for those who use tablets and devices that run older Android versions.

According to Google, the latest version of Gmail brings Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience to Android 3.2 Honeycomb users.

The following important features have been introduced for Honeycomb users: swipe to move between newer and older conversations; tap your account to access Recent labels; set custom notifications for individual labels.

In addition, Honeycomb users will be able to sync last 30 days of messages, so they can read and search messages faster both online and offline.

For Froyo and Gingerbread users Google offers performance improvements and new labels API for third-party app devs.

Gmail is now available as a free download via Google Play and it should be available with all devices running Android 1.6 and up.
