More Gmail storage coming soon

The battle between the web-based email technologies evolves and Gmail makes the last step. The Google team is now planning to increase the Gmail storage size after the rivals from Yahoo debuted the unlimited capacity for their mail service. In fact, the Google officials announced a long time ago that if Yahoo implements unlimited storage size, Gmail offers no less than infinity + 1 capacity, just to be over the Sunnyvale rivals. Although we all thought it was only a joke, it seems like the Mountain View company really wants to increase the Gmail size as Rob Siemborski, Gmail Engineer, talked about new improvements to be rolled out soon.

"In April 2005, we started increasing Gmail storage as part of our "Infinity+1" storage plan. At that time, we realized we'd never reach infinity, but we promised to keep giving Gmail users more space as we were able," the Google official said about that time's announcement. "That said, a few of you are using Gmail so much that you're running out of space, so to make good on our promise, today we're announcing we are speeding up our counter and giving out more free storage," he revealed the new Gmail plans.

As you can see, the Gmail storage size update is actually a modification over the space counter which will increase the capacity continuously. However, Google avoided mentioning how much space it will provide for every registered member but last days' rumors said October will come with somewhere near 4GB of storage size for Gmail fans. It seems like the Google Apps consumers are the luckiest ones because they will receive an upgrade to 25GB through the Premier Edition of the suite.

"By the way, businesses, schools and organizations using Google Apps to get Gmail on their own custom addresses (like Google does for our @google.com accounts) will get a storage boost in the coming days, too. Standard and Education Edition storage (now at 2GB) will begin matching Gmail's counter, and Premier Edition users get a whopping 25 GB (up from 10 GB)," the Google official added.

However, you can also buy some additional space using the recently debuted Google technology available here.
