14 DAY TRIAL // Sundar Pichai, Google's Senior Vice-President of products, announced a new milestone in Gmail's reach, disclosing that the service's current userbase is at over 900 million users, more than double the last reported headcount of 425 million, way back in 2012.
The announcement was made during Google's I/O 2015 developer conference and was also accompanied by a small morsel of information regarding Gmail's usage statistics, Mr. Pichai revealing the service is used by 3 out of 4 users from their mobile devices.
Inbox by Gmail is now free for everyone
This information seems to fit right in with Google's other major announcement regarding its emailing service, the free availability of its Inbox by Gmail service to anyone.
Inbox by Gmail can used on Android, iOS, and the Web, but for the latter, the mobile applications need to be installed first. The service spent a few months in private beta, utilizing the same invitation only system as Gmail did in its beginnings.
There's was no major announcement regarding Gmail's doom or Inbox super-seeding it, and Gmail looks to unequivocally remain the main emailing service in Google's portfolio, with Inbox nothing more than an extra tool on top of what is already the best mailing service on the Web.
Google Chrome and a few other services reach 1 billion users
But the good news doesn't end here. In the same presentation, Mr. Pichai has also announced that Google Chrome, Google Search, Google Maps, and YouTube all have 1 billion active users each.
This tidbit of information will probably not shock anyone, especially since all these services are for a while well apart of everyone's slang, lore, and even official dictionaries.
