Gmail is one of Google's biggest and best known products. While Facebook is launching a new messaging platform that integrates email and AOL gets a Gmail-inspired revamp, Google is just introducing a refreshed log-in page for Gmail and a new logo.

"If you visited the Gmail log-in page recently, you may have noticed that things looked a wee bit different," Jason Toff, Product Marketing Manager at Google, wrote on the Gmail blog.

"We decided to give this page a bit of a facelift and updated a few of Gmail’s other pages while we were at it. Our goal was to keep a familiar look while freshening up the graphics and trimming down the text (we cut out over 250 words in the process)," he explained.

The new login page is now live for everyone, but the changes are minimal and you're going to have trouble spotting them if you don't visit that page that often.

Considering that most people stay logged into their Google accounts most of the time, if only because it's needed in so many places, it's probably not one of Google's most visited pages. You can check out the Google-provided screenshot to see the differences.

The new log-in page does feel lighter and more spacious. It also brings the page in line with Google's latest design trends, spearheaded by the revamped homepage and search results page this spring.

That revamp also introduced a brand-new Google logo, the first one in more than a decade. That logo served as an inspiration for the redesigned Gmail logo which is now live as well.

The new Gmail logo, while strikingly similar to the previous one, is a bit more colorful, taking its cues from the colors Google uses on the homepage. The envelope replacing the 'm' has also been redesigned and looks a bit more stylish.
