Glu Mobile Inc., a worldwide leading publisher of mobile games, announced the lineup of titles it planned to release during the first quarter of the year in North America, all of which are meant to emphasize the company's commitment to provide cross-platform games. According to Glu Mobile, the new titles will be targeted at mobile platforms from Apple, the Open Handset Alliance and Nokia, which would be incorporated into the existing global network of J2ME and BREW handsets.

“Glu remains focused on delivering high quality games to every mobile platform. In 2009, we will be delivering innovative games based on some of the most popular and highly anticipated brands in our portfolio,” said Alex Galvagni, SVP, global product development and CTO, Glu. “Over the past year, our team has worked hard to incorporate the iPhone, Android and other new platforms into the framework of our existing development and deployment processes, and we have a solid lineup of games that will surprise and delight gamers with titles that are refreshingly fun and can be played anytime, anywhere.”

Glu provides support for over 1,000 devices in more than 10 languages and 65 countries all over the world, it has focused on the new emerging platforms introduced by Apple, Nokia and the Open Handset Alliance, and it reallocated around 30 percent of its development resources for this move, while still maintaining support for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, J2ME and BREW devices. The company has the ability to launch titles across all platforms courtesy of years of technological intelligence and its internal infrastructure.

“The introduction of new operating systems and app stores in 2008 set up the mobile games industry for a landscape shift in 2009, and any publisher serious about being a global player needs to be sure they support the new platforms and prepare for continued handset fragmentation,” said Tuong Nguyen, principal analyst, Gartner.

The new titles that would be launched in North America during Q1 2009 will be available for all platforms mentioned above. The list includes Superman/Batman: Heroes United, an action game in which the heroes fight against evil together (available January 2009); Cooking Star, a fun casual game (available February 2009); Age of Empires III, the N-Gage version of the real-time strategy game (available February 2009).

Other titles include Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rescue, a puzzle game (available February 2009); Build-a-lot, an online real-estate strategy game (available on Android, February 2009; available on J2ME, BREW, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, April 2009); Watchmen: The Mobile Game, an action game (available March 2009); Brain Genius Deluxe, a title that comes with touch and motion-controlled games and puzzles (available now on Android); and Monsters vs. Aliens, the mobile game based on the DreamWorks Animation movie (available March 2009).
