Mysterious statue of the Virgin Mary, which reportedly glows in the dark, has attracted hundreds of pilgrims to a house in the small town of Jalhay in Belgium. Both faithful and curious people have gathered to see the miracle.

According to Daily Mail, at least 500 people visited the house in the quiet Belgian town on one day alone.

Local police has posted guards around a pavilion built by the owners of the statue, which has been dubbed “the mysterious glowing Virgin,” as it reportedly emits a dull glow after nightfall.

The phenomenon was first noticed in mid-January and since then, it has gradually attracted larger groups of pilgrims.

The mysterious statue represents the “Virgin of Banneux,” after the name of a nearby village where, in 1933, a young girl was said to have witnessed an appearance by the Virgin.

The bishop of Liege has sent a group of clergymen to investigate the validity of the claims.

“It's certain that something is going on but I can't tell you whether there is a natural or a miraculous explanation,” Father Leo Palm, a member of the investigation group, said.

Some faithful claim they have been cured of ailments after visiting the statue.
