The last quarter of the year usually sees sale numbers achieve lavish scores, and the tablet sector is no different from this pattern.

New research results posted by DigiTimes indicates there were a total of 78.45 million tablets being shipped world-wide in Q4 2013, which constitutes a 25% increase on quarter and 29.8% year-over-year.

Apple managed to snatch 29.7% of these shipments, while other major brand vendors accounted for 36.6%. The remaining 33.8% (a pretty considerable share) is attributed to white-box vendors.

7-inchers continue to lead sales in the tablet market, accounting for 31% of devices sold, while 9-ichers took 25.4% and 10-inchers 15.8%.

Even if a lot of brand vendors have launched 8-inch models on the market (see Acer Iconia W4, Toshiba Encore 8, Dell Venue 8 Pro or Lenovo IdeaTab Miix 2) customers are yet to acquire a taste for them, a conclusion that is reflected in the sale numbers. 8-inch models only managed to capture 7.6% of the total revenue in Q4 2014.

In terms of vendors, Apple continues to remain on top with 29.7% global marketshare, followed by Samsung with 17% and Amazon with 5.4%.
