Global Payments Inc, the company affected recently by a massive data breach, came forward admitting that the hackers stole 1.5 million credit card numbers.

On the bright side, the incident affects only credit card holders from North America, and the cybercriminals managed to gain access only to Track 2 card data, which holds card numbers.

Global Payments representatives say that cardholder names, addresses and social security numbers (SSN) were not accessed.

“We are making rapid progress toward bringing this issue to a close. Our nearly 4,000 employees around the world are focused on providing exceptional service. We are open for business and continue to process transactions for all of the card brands,” said Chairman and CEO Paul R.

The organization is currently working with both law enforcement and security firms to minimize the impact of the breach, but it’s believed that the incident is contained.
