Lenovo may have thrived, in a sense, but the big picture is different

In other years, I might have ended up praising how well the PC industry has been doing, but 2013 hasn't so far been doing any better than 2012 in terms of computer sales.

Gartner and iSuppli are both in agreement about that, and they're not the only analysts that have unfortunate things to say.

As it happens, Digitimes Research has also found that the PC market, or at least the laptop segment in particular, has been doing rather poorly.

In fact, during the second quarter of 2013, shipments dropped 15.4% on year. And I thought the 13.7% of the first quarter were bad.

Sequentially, there was a 1.8 growth, strangely enough, but that doesn't really wash away the nasty comparison to the second quarter of 2012.

Lenovo and Dell were the only ones who saw on-quarter shipments growth actually, among the top-10 vendors. It says a lot that they managed to account for the 1.8% growth on their own.
