That's almost double compared to the demand in 2011

Blu-ray disks have been getting more and more popular lately, but 2012 might show a greater increase in global demand for them than ever.

As people may or may not know, about 210 million Blu-ray disks sold last year (2011).

One would think this demand was more than decent, but it's apparently small compared to what 2012 is expected to bring.

PIDA, Taiwan-based Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association, reportedly reached the conclusion that the most likely number for 2012 was 400 million units.

We're not sure what to think. On the one hand, 3D movies and console games have been making liberal use of BD, but for everything else DVDs still behave more than decently. We guess we'll do the only thing we can at this point: wait and see what happens.
