Glamorous Fall Ad Campaign Previews

A few weeks ago, I was telling you all about the somewhat surprising but rather exciting recent twist in some of the major fashion designers' perception on quality advertising and successful ad campaigns. Over the past decade, genuine, professional supermodels have been all but banished into semi-obscurity by the generalized trend of using celebrities to front major designer ad campaigns. Whether we're talking singers or actors, everything from hair dye to skincare lines and designer bags has been modeled for the public by the familiar faces of everyone from Sharon Stone and Jennifer Lopez to Angelina Jolie. However, things are changing fast - as we can easily see if we take a look at some of the new fall ad campaigns.

And indeed, the "old" glamorous supermodels are back with a vengeance. Have a look at the preview photo for Miuccia Prada's fall campaign, exclusively released to WWD. It features none other than Linda Evangelista dressed in a tight, 50s-reminiscent lace number, ornate heel shoes and posing in a demure yet attractive manner. "We imagined her so beautiful in this collection," stated the celebrated Italian designer. The photo shoot took place in April in New York, with Steven Meisel in charge of taking the shots. The campaign fronted by Evangelista will first be featured in the August issue of Vogue Italia.

Meanwhile, despite her legal woes and rather poor sense of anger management, feisty supermodel Naomi Campbell shines as the face of Yves Saint Laurent's fall campaign, shot by Ines van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin under the direction of YSL designer Stefano Pilati. Indeed, in her fabulous, shiny high-waisted pants, Naomi channels the disco feel of the 1980s in a definite vintage revival. Her ads - photographed in Paris at the YSL headquarters on Avenue George V - will also hit the fashion magazines in August. Stay tuned for more news and fall campaign previews.
