The printer is no longer a mere concept in the works

Remember that Kickstarter project back in March? The one that promised would conclude with the retail availability of the Foodini food 3D printer. Well, the time has come for sales to happen.

You might think that it's too soon for 3D printed food, and you'd be right if this was some sort of synthesizer or something.

However, Natural Machines' Foodini doesn't actually make food from basic materials. Not exactly. Instead, it accepts capsules filled with ground meat, flour, sugar, salt, and many other ingredients.

Based on those ingredients and whatever recipe you input, the Foodini will make you a dish that you'll be ready to snack on immediately.

So we suppose that Foodini is more of a kitchen appliance than 3D printer really. Like a coffee machine and microwave oven, only more complex.

Pre-assembled ingredients can be used to print meat and other simple things, for now, but future models should be able to make more sophisticated meals without any input from you.

Unfortunately, the Foodini is only available in limited quantities for now, and serious sales will begin only in 2015. The price is a pretty unfriendly $1,300 / €1,300 too, but if you have a big family or throw lots of parties, then it might be worth it.
