Giuliana and Bill Rancic Talk Breast Cancer Announcement

The other day, Giuliana Rancic, reality star and E! News host, made a shocking announcement on The Today show: she was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and was about to start receiving treatment.

In a new interview with E! (video below), Rancic explains why she decided to come forward with the news when no one even suspected what she was about to say.

Granted, she also offered this explanation on Today but, this time, her husband Bill is by her side. Both of them stress they want their example to serve as a lesson to all young women out there who think this could never happen to them.

Bill also takes the time to praise his wife for being so courageous as to speak out on such a personal issue as a breast cancer diagnosis is.

“I think she was a lot stronger than I thought because up until this morning, anytime she ever said the word ‘cancer’ she would start crying,” he says, looking lovingly at Giuliana.

“Her goal was to send a message to the young girls out there and I don’t think it could have gone any better. I thought it was a beautiful segment, it was real,” he adds.

Giuliana admits that making the announcement was difficult, but she says she’s happy she has such “an amazing platform” to speak out and raise awareness on the issue.

More than just raising awareness, she wants to inspire her fans (the women who watch her reality series or who never miss her shows on E!) to action: going to the doctor to have themselves checked.

This is the same message she concluded yesterday’s announcement with: early detection means full recovery, so women should act preemptively by seeing the doctor regularly and learning how to do checkups on themselves.
