E! fixture is promoting a new book, lands another interview

The other day, Giuliana Rancic had an appearance on The Today Show with Savannah Guthrie and she seemed reluctant to confirm that she would be returning to Fashion Police in the fall. Asked if she’d be back, she answered with a vague “we’ll see.”

Speaking with Extra some hours ago, she was a bit more decided: yes, when the show comes back from hiatus, she will be on it. As you can see in the video below, she also took the time to address a supposed feud with Kelly Osbourne that is playing out as we speak.

Giuliana speaks out

Rancic has been flying under the radar for a few weeks now, before she started the promo tour for the book. Her career hit a very bum note in February, when the post-Oscars Fashion Police show included footage of her making what appeared to be a racist joke at Zendaya Coleman’s expense.

She eventually apologized for it, but the incident unleashed a series of unexpected events that led to the show’s hiatus, like Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin’s departure.

As she did on The Today Show, Giuliana insists that the controversy was due to a misunderstanding caused by editing, because the joke was truncated. It was never racist, but it only seemed that way because bits of it were left out.

She doesn’t seem upset with the network for it and it doesn’t seem to have cost her job, as it happened with the other two co-hosts.

“Yes, I am returning to Fashion Police,” she says. “Once it comes back, it’s gonna be a show I’m proud to be on and that people are proud to watch.”

According to her, producers are now working out the details of a new format, and only after they’ve got this down will they be looking for seat fillers. She hasn’t been in contact with Kelly or Kathy since they left or were fired, so she can’t provide any details into their departure.

The Kelly Osbourne feud

After Giuliana’s Today segment aired, Kelly tweeted that “liars always get caught,” which was considered a dig at her former colleague. Rancic tells Extra that this can’t possibly be, because she is telling “the truth.”

Plus, Kelly didn’t mention her name, so she could have been talking about anyone.

Giuliana is wrong, as Kelly’s statement to People magazine proves: she says she had initially decided not to say anything about Fashion Police because of the “drama” that went on behind the scenes.

She doesn’t go into specifics, but she professes she’s heartbroken by Giuliana’s “behavior that has transpired when she did get caught being wrong.” In other words, Kelly seems to be saying that Giuliana is lying about the joke being written for her and then edited to appear offensive.

By the looks of things, there’s a huge storm coming.
