Giuliana Rancic, the E! fashion correspondent and one of the co-hosts on Fashion Police, has always been subject to speculation on her weight, but never has it been as harsh as it’s been this year, following appearances at the Golden Globes and the Grammys 2015.

At the latter ceremony, Giuliana looked the very picture of a “lollipop head” in a black lace onsie that, instead of flattering her slender frame, only made her appear skinnier. Until now, she refused to engage reports that she has an eating disorder, but it’s time she said something about it.

Giuliana sets the record straight: it’s the cancer meds

Asked right after the Grammys if she wanted to comment on rumors that she had an eating disorder, she flat-out denied to do so, saying she’d found out the best course of action in such situations was to not engage in the conversation at all.

She knew the truth and so did the people around her, and that was all that mattered.

In a new interview with People magazine, Giuliana admits that this kind of speculation is getting to her, especially since she knows she has a weight problem. She has been trying to gain a few pounds and she hates it that these rumors distract from her work, but at this point, there is absolutely nothing more she can do.

Still, she maintains, she doesn’t have an eating disorder. If she did, people who mocked her online for having it would have chosen the worst way to get her to understand she had a problem, she says.

In reality, Giuliana has lost weight and can’t gain any because she’s on cancer medication. In 2011, she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, and she’s been on medication since.

Not eating to stay skinny is not something she would ever do, she promises. If anything, of her group of friends, she eats the most (including dessert at night after dinner), but she’s been told by her oncologist that she may never gain anything as long as she takes the pills.

A painful thing to be constantly reminded of

Giuliana Rancic doesn’t want to talk about how skinny she is because she wishes she were different.

“It's really hurtful,” she says. “I'm sorry that some people think I'm disgustingly skinny, as they put it, but there's nothing I can do. I'm lucky that I even have the type of cancer that reacts to the medicine. I look in the mirror and it's hard for me. I am really thin. I want to look fit and beautiful and sexy, and I can't.”

She also can’t wear certain types of gowns and always has to worry about what people will say if she puts on a sleeveless outfit or one that shows more of her back.

With all this, Giuliana Rancic is determined to not let the haters bring her down, even those who claim they’re skinny-shaming and concern-trolling her because they have the best intentions at heart.
