In October last year, after months of IFV because of fertility issues, E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic found out that she also had breast cancer. She put all dreams of having a baby on hold for good – but she's now getting ready for motherhood.

Giuliana and husband Bill made a surprise appearance on The Today Show to break the happy news to the world: they're about to become first-time parents by gestational carrier.

You can see video of the interview below, embedded at the end of the article.

The baby will be born in late summer and, though both parents know whether it's a boy or a girl, they don't want to tell the press anything more specific yet.

The “baby mama” doesn't live in the state, but Giuliana and Bill visit monthly to see how the pregnancy is progressing and to keep in touch with the unborn baby.

In the interview, the two also explain how a gestational carrier is different from a surrogate mother, in that the baby she's carrying is actually the couple's.

“This was our last stop. This was it. We had those two embryos that we had banked prior to learning about the breast cancer, and with the medicine she was on (which meant Giuliana will have to wait years before trying to personally get pregnant), this was our last effort,” Bill explains.

“The prayers were answered,” he adds, literally beaming with joy.

Giuliana too says the cancer diagnosis and everything it entailed was a life lesson, one that taught her about turning “negatives into positives.”

“The more you focus on the positive, the more you are grateful for the good things in your life, the more good things come to you. I’ve really seen that. I have a great husband… and I have a baby on the way. What more can I ask for, really?” the television star asks.
