Git, a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency, is now at version 1.9 RC1.

The new Git 1.9.x branch continues the trend of large releases, integrating a big number of changes and fixes, and the current version is no different.

According to the developers, various bugfixes have been implemented to remote-bzr and remote-hg, the build procedure is now aware of MirBSD, and a number of "git p4," "git svn," and "gitk" updates have been added.

Also, two-level configuration variable names in "branch.*" and "remote.*" hierarchies, whose variables are predominantly three-level, are now working properly.

For a complete list of changes, check out the changelog. Download Git 1.9 RC1 right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
