An anti-gay parenting demonstration in Marseille, France, was interrupted yesterday, as two girls kissed in front of protesters.

The “Un papa une maman" ("One dad one mum") tries to reinforce traditional family values by lobbying against gay parenting. Protesters from 75 French towns gathered for the rally that has been described by the two girls as homophobic.

Some protesters in the crowd just laid there, shocked by the girls' gesture, while others, that had brought their children along, urged them to look away, according to France24.

17-year-old Julia Pistolesi and 19-year-old Auriane Susini, two straight young women from Marseille, shared a kiss as “a gesture of solidarity, pure and simple,” as they said in an interview with French LGBT website Têtu.

They claim the gesture was completely spontaneous, and that they never meant to become heroes for the gay community in France.
