Amidst rumors that Girls Aloud are on their way to splitsville after a couple of hit singles, just as it happened to many girl bands that came and went almost unnoticed, the five gorgeous British ladies came back to show the world that they are in no way planning to leave showbiz.
The special collection of Best Of, 'The Sound of Girls Aloud - The Greatest Hits' came in at number one in all the UK charts, sweeping past Robbie Williams' long anticipated 'Rudebox' material. And all it took for the girls was just one week, meaning the album reached the top of the charts only a week after it was released.
Meanwhile, Amy Winehouse's comeback album 'Back to Black' had a strong opening this week, debuting at number three, all in all, a very good spot for the soul singer. Another new entry was that of rock legends The Who, who debuted with their 'Endlesswire' at number nine.
The rest of the chart contains no other new entries: Meat Loaf ('Bat Out Of Hell 3 - The Monster Is Loose') is at number four, My Chemical Romance ('The Black Parade') at five, Rod Stewart ('Still the Same - Great Rock Classics') at six, Razorlight ('Razorlight') at seven, Scissor Sisters ('Ta-Dah') at eight, while Justin Timberlake's 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' slipped to the number ten spot.
