If this keeps up, chances are a “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” franchise will never come to be. Though two more movies should have gone in production right after the first one, poor sales and scheduling issues have made that impossible.

Right now, the future of the franchise remains very uncertain, even if the studio said it was definitely a go, just not for 2013 as initially planned.

In fact, it’s so uncertain that Prefix Mag (a cached copy of the original article is here) points out that the road might end here for stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as the unlikely couple in the original Stieg Larsson trilogy.

The number one hang-up seems to be director David Fincher who refuses to commit to more movies because of an already packed schedule. Sony wants him and he wants back as well, but he simply doesn’t have the time for it.

Craig and Mara, on the other hand, are locked in their contracts for two more installments, “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and the “Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,” respectively.

If this franchise does eventually get off the ground, rest assured you’ll find out about it here.
