A fake order has put two Girl Scouts troops in the hot spot, one person having ordered 6,000 boxes of cookies and never claiming them.

According to ABC News, two girls received the order for the large number of boxes from a corporate client.

A woman from Portland, Oregon, whose name has not been disclosed, ordered $24,000 (€18,500) worth of products on behalf of a local company.

In an interview on "Good Morning America," one of the Girl Scouts troops' mothers described calling said company and hearing how reps never heard of the order.

"I contacted the ... company and they said, 'We have no idea what's going on,'" Jennifer Reed says.

"It made me feel sad because I thought someone really bought 6,000 cookie [boxes]," one of the girls tells reporters.

They found out that the woman previously calling them was not employed by the company, and that they had been the victims of hoax.

"They placed a fake order on us and they didn't know that it hurt our feelings a lot," 8-year-old Scout Erin Donnelly notes.

The little girls had intended to use the money to pay for summer camp and help a homeless shelter by providing dinner.

Fortunately, community members were keen to step in and help out the girls, and, by the end of the day, they had already made half of their money back.

"For every one person that has bad intentions, there are hundreds more with good intentions and good hearts that are here to help you," says Sarah Miller, director of communication for Girls Scouts of Oregon and Washington.

"We are humbled by and grateful for the outpouring of support we received in response to the Girl Scout troops affected by a large false Girl Scout cookie order.

"Thank you to the hundreds of people who came out today to buy more than 3,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies - your support has both helped the girls get closer to their goals AND taught them a valuable lesson about the power of community," Girl Scouts reps said in a statement posted on their website.
