Little girls who don't dream of becoming princesses when they grow up probably dream of a career as supermodels. The reality of the modeling industry is being exposed in a shocking and honest documentary called “Girl Model.”

A trailer for it is above.

The film, shot a while back and having already made the festival circuit, is gearing for a release in the UK and other territories this spring.

Made by former US model Ashley Sabin and David Redmon, it sees them traveling to remote regions in Europe scouting for young girls to send to Japan, where demand is incredibly high.

The girls leave their home in the hope of a better life but are soon faced with the cruel reality, which is very much anything else they might have imagined.

“[As they] find themselves lost in a harrowing hall of mirrors, will they learn to navigate the modeling world, or wind up returning home in debt to their agencies?” asks the synopsis.
