University student Naomi Oni, who suffered severe burns on her face and chest after her so-called friend, Mary Konye, attacked her with sulphuric acid, was maimed for being beautiful.

The story of the victim, who was left with permanent scaring on her face and body after her friend Mary, disguised to hide her face, threw corrosive liquid straight to her face, made it to the headlines months ago, and now Naomi claims she knows the reason of the vicious attack.

Naomi accused her friend of being jealous on her looks and of threatening her before, with similar actions. The two 21-year-olds have had a bumpy friendship, being up-and-down many times but trying to preserve their relationship.

It seems Mary's intentions weren't the best ones as she executed a copy-cat attack of the Victoria Secret model case that received widespread media attention. The model Katie Piper was maimed by her ex-boyfriend back in 2008 and suffered severe scars because of the same substance thrown to her face. The model and TV presenter was left blind in one eye and endured incredible pain after the incident.

Miss Oni was deeply upset by the case and accused her friend of wanting her to feel the same pain the model did just because she was beautiful. In some of their arguments, Naomi called Mary ugly, which must have triggered the desire to scar her for life.

Mary, disguised herself in a niqab, a head scarf, followed Naomi home from work, and just before getting home, she stopped her and threw acid at her face. The victim ran home where her family rapidly tried to wash the acid away, but it was already too late, as the substance burned her skin and hair.

The young woman suffered “visible burning to her nose, cheeks and chin and also to her right wrist, hand, stomach area and left thigh,” notes Daily Mail. She had to have skin grafted to her face and almost lost her sight during the horrible attack.

Miss Konye denies ever attacking the girl and even, if she admitted to her friend being attractive, she refused to admit being jealous of her. Even if Naomi told officers that Mary had both the reason and the intent to go through with the attack, after previously stating it, the case still continues.
