This past October 9, a giraffe living in captivity at Zoo Praha in the Czech Republic delivered a healthy female calf.

Keepers say that this baby giraffe is Kleopatra's 11th offspring, and the 79th giraffe calf to have ever been born at this facility. Hence the fact that her arrival caused quite a stir. Zoo Borns tells us that the female giraffe managed to stand up and walk around the delivery enclosure within an hour after she had been born.

What's more, she began to nurse shortly after and, once her belly was full, she took a nap to recover her strength.

The calf's behavior was normal for her species. Thus, baby giraffes that are born in the wild must get up on all fours and nurse shortly after birth in order to avoid being targeted and killed by predators, the same source tells us.
