Giraffe calf at Oklahoma City Zoo is growing stronger every day, keepers reassure

This past October 1, a female giraffe calf born at the Oklahoma City Zoo on September 25 took her first steps outside her delivery room.

Her siblings were anxiously waiting to meet her, and seemed utterly delighted when the baby giraffe finally showed up in the family's outdoors enclosure.

Zoo Borns tells us that this baby giraffe has one brother and one sister. The brother, named Sergeant Pepper, was born in January 2012. Her sister, Keyara, was born in January 2010.

The zoo's new arrival hasn't yet been named. However, keepers promise that they will soon sort out this issue.

Vets and caretakers reassure the public that the baby giraffe is healthy and active, and that her mum is doing a great job looking after her.

“Both mom and calf are doing well. Ellie is a doting mom and her calf is full of energy, personality and spunk,” zoo supervisor Jaimee Flinchbaugh reportedly told the press.
