Some time ago, on July 7, a giraffe living at Brazil's Sao Paulo Zoo gave birth to a healthy male calf. Unfortunately, the delivery didn't go very smoothly.

Apparently, the mother giraffe failed to deliver the calf on her own.

Veterinarians had to step in, use some ropes to grab hold of the baby giraffe's front legs, and pretty much yank him out of his mother's womb.

Despite this difficult delivery, zoo employees say that the baby giraffe is by far the strongest and healthiest of his kind to have ever been born at this animal sanctuary.

According to Zoo Borns, it took just two weeks for the baby giraffe to start hopping around his enclosure. It now does so on a daily basis, and seems to be having the time of his life.

The baby giraffe's name was chosen by the public, who was given the chance to pick and choose from ten monikers suggested by the zoo staff. By the looks of it, the name “Girafales” turned out to be the winner.
