Chinese OEMs seem to be on fire this year as Xiaomi, OnePlus and Oppo have been selling lots of smartphones lately. In fact, Xiaomi shipped the highest number of smartphones in China, which is the world’s largest market.

If Lenovo and Motorola wouldn’t have confirmed the closing of the buyout transaction announced earlier this year, Xiaomi would have been world’s third smartphone manufacturer.

Even so, the number 4 spot is not bad either for a company that has never been ranked in top 5 world’s smartphone manufacturers. Gionee may be one of the less known Chinese smartphone OEMs, but that might change in the next couple of months.

One of the reasons Gionee might be more successful in the not-so-distant future is the company’s roadmap, which contains some interesting devices.

The unannounced Gionee Marathon M3 is such a device that might boost the Chinese company’s revenue in the next financial quarter. MakTechBlog reports the Marathon M3’s main selling point is the huge 5,000 mAh battery that is supposed to power the smartphone.

According to Gionee, Marathon M3’s monster battery should provide up to 33.7 hours of talk time or up to 3.8 days of standby time, which is really impressive to say the least.

But that’s not the only interesting feature included in the next mid-end Gionee smartphone. Although the Marathon M3 will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, it packs a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek Cortex-A7 processor and Mali 450 graphics processing unit.

The Marathon M3 costs only $179, but it's unavailable for now

Given the fact that Gionee is focusing on emerging markets like China and India, the Marathon M3 offers dual-SIM capability as well. On top of that, the smartphone offers Face Unlock feature, OTA update and smart gesture support.

As expected from a mid-range Android smartphone, Gionee’s upcoming smartphone features 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Gionee also confirmed that the handset sports a 5-inch IPS OGS (One Glass Solution) capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

On the back, the device packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there’s a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

While Gionee did not officially announce the Marathon M3, the smartphone is now listed on the company’s official website and customers can order it for only $179 (€143) outright, though when clicking the buy button, it redirects you to a page that says the product is currently out of stock.
