Mobile phone maker Gionee has officially launched a new smartphone in the Gpad series in India today, but it seems that it is already working on the next member of the family.

We’re referring here to the Gionee Gpad 4, which has just made an appearance on the company’s Facebook page, and which is expected to arrive on shelves in the not too distant future.

The new device comes with a large 5.7-inch touchscreen display, though it will pack only mid-range hardware inside.

The upcoming mobile phone will be able to provide users with a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution on its one-glass solution (OGS) display, as fonearena notes.

However, Gionee Gpad 4 will be capable of appealing performance capabilities, courtesy of a 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589T processor packed inside it, paired with PowerVR SGX 544MP2 graphics.

The specifications list of the forthcoming smartphone also includes 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, along with a 3200 mAh battery.

On the back, the new handset sports a 13-megapixel camera with LED Flash and BSI sensor, which is capable of recording videos in full HD resolution.

Additionally, the smartphone features a 5MP front camera, a great option for making video calls while on the go.

Other hardware specifications of Gionee Gpad 4 include 3G connectivity options, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities, and built-in GPS/A-GPS.

Gionee will bring the smartphone to shelves in India with Google’s Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top right from the start.

No specific info on when the mobile phone might arrive on the market in the country has been provided, nor on the price tag that it might feature. However, chances are that it will be released soon, and that it will cost less than the Gionee Elife E6, which is priced at INR 22,999 ($361 / €268).
