Android fans and enthusiasts rejoice, as Chinese company Gionee has just announced that its high-end Elife S5.5 smartphone is now available for purchase in India.

As AndroidOS points out, the smartphone was officially introduced in India in late March and slated for an April 27 release on the market, but it looks like the first stock of units was delayed by more than a week for unknown reasons.

Anyway, beginning today, customers can pick up the Elife S5.5 in India via Gionee’s online store for Rs 22,999 outright, which is about 385 or €275. The smartphone is available in multiple color options, such as Black, Blue, Purple and White, so there are plenty of flavors for every taste.

All in all, the Elife S5.5 is really worth the price that Gionee has tagged it with, especially due to the fact that it’s the world’s slimmest Android smartphone at only 5.55 mm.

The hardware configuration also recommends it as one of the best choices for customers looking for a mid- to high-end Android smartphone.

“Made of premium metal and glass, the S5.5 is a celebration of cutting-edge design. But it’s not just super slim and sexy. The Elife S series products incorporate an emphasis on design without compromising the hardware and software to create a whole new user experience,” mentions Gionee in a press release.

The only downside might be the fact that Elife S5.5 ships with Amigo 2.0 OS, which is based on the older Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform, but Gionee might eventually offer a KitKat upgrade in the not so distant future.

Anyway, Gionee Elife S5.5 has a powerful octa-core MediaTek MTK 6592 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, which is complemented by 2GB of RAM. It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone comes with around 16GB of internal memory, but lacks microSD card slot, which is another negative aspect of the device.

Moreover, the Elife S5.5 boasts a stunning 5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and 441ppi (pixel density).

On the back, Gionee’s high-end smartphone packs an impressive 13-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front, there’s a no less impressive 5-megapixel camera to capture that perfect selfie.

Connectivity-wise, Gionee Elife S5.5 offers HSPA (42Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76Mbps), as well as the usual Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, microUSB (OTG included) and built-in GPS with A-GPS support. The smartphone is powered by a 2300 mAh non-removable battery, which has yet to be rated by Gionee.
