San Antonio Spurs needed an overtime effort to get past the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday. The Texans managed to squeeze a 128-119 victory, to make it 2-0 in the playoff series. The man of the day was Manu Ginobili, who scored 32 points (8 in the overtime) and had 9 assists. Brant Barry was another hero at the AT&T Center, his 3-pointer hitting the backboard and going in 4.9 minutes from time.
"This is definitely one of the biggest shots
of my carrier", said the enthusiast Barry after the game. Ginobili replied: "I couldn't believe it. When I passed the ball I was under the basket. My focus was on grabbing the rebound when it looked like the shot missed, then it hit the backboard and went in".
Barry finished the game with 22 points, and was followed on the scoreboard by French playmaker Tony Parker, who had 22 points and 10 assists. Team leader Tim Duncan only managed 14 points, due to a 5-foul threat, which kept him on the bench for more than a quarter.
On the other hand, Sacramento missed his top scorer, Ron Artest, but still managed to stay in the game. They were 3 points up with 5 seconds to go, but Barry's 3-pointer spoiled their dreams of leveling the series with the Texans. Bonxi Wells was their top scorer, with 28 points, but they lost it in the OT.
"We put on a good show tonight. We just came up a little bit short. Hopefully we can do the same thing in Sacramento but come up with a win", said Wells after the game.
The series will now move to Sacramento, in California, for the next 2 games of the playoff's first round. Here are the other results from yesterday night in the NBA Playoffs:
New Jersey Nets - Indiana Pacers 90-75 (1-1)
Cleverland Cavaliers - Washington Wizards 84-89 (1-1)
