The original 7-inch Galaxy Tab tablet is now receiving the highly-anticipated Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade in Italy.

The update was reported via the Italian forum Androidiani, though Samsung has yet to announce it officially.

Although additional information about the deployment of the major update in Italy is scarce at the moment, it appears that it will be followed by other countries soon.

Italian users who flashed the Gingerbread update reported the following change log:

- Firmware Version: 2.3.3; - Versione banda base : P1000XXJPZ Base-band version: P1000XXJPZ; - Versione Kernel : 2.6.35.7 – se-infra@SEP-52 #2; - Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 – if infra-SEP-52 @ # 2; - Numero build : GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1; - Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXJQ1.

On related news, it appears that Samsung India has already confirmed the deployment of the Gingerbread update for the original Galaxy Tab by the end of the month.

The announcement was made via Twitter and mentioned that further details will be disclosed in due time.

As of now, the Galaxy Tab 7-inch is expected to get a gingerbread upgrade towards the end of this month. Will keep you informed.”

Even though the original Galaxy Tab has already been confirmed to receive the Gingerbread upgrade in the next weeks, it is unclear if Samsung plans to bring the tablet's software to Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Samsung P-1000 Galaxy Tab offers users the option to browse the Internet via 3G network or Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity.

In an attempt to counter the Apple's iPad success on the market, the Korean manufacturer rushed the launch of the tablet with Android 2.2 on board, which is not designed to work on devices with larger displays.

However, Samsung is preparing to launch two additional different sized tablets, Galaxy Tab 10.1-inch and Galaxy Tab 8.9-inch, both running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
