Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest mobile OS flavor Google released for smartphones, should soon become available as a software update for two of the most popular HTC handsets on the United States market, namely the DROID Incredible and ThunderBolt

Both handsets are currently available for purchase in the US on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless, and both of them will taste the new update before the ongoing month is over.

HTC themselves announced the move via a recent tweet, though they did not offer a specific release date for the update for either of the two handsets.

“Good news! A Gingerbread update for both DROID Incredible and ThunderBolt are coming in September. Thanks for your support,” the aforementioned tweet from the company reads.

A few weeks ago, Verizon posted the release notes for DROID Incredible's Android 2.3 Gingerbread update on its website, suggesting that the update was near, but pulled it soon after, a good sign that users had to wait longer for the new software to arrive.

However, things are now official, and all DROID Incredible owners on Verizon Wireless' airwaves should expect for the new software update to become available for their devices in the coming weeks.

As for the HTC ThunderBolt, the very first Android-based smartphone at Verizon to offer support for the carrier's LTE network, it was expected to taste the Gingerbread OS upgrade ever since it was launched on shelves in early 2011.

Amid a series of leaked Gingerbread ROMs for the handset, we had the chance to have a look at some recent rumors suggesting that the Android 2.3 update will arrive on this device before October, and it seems that they will soon pan out.

In addition to the usual set of enhancements that the new Gingerbread OS flavor will bring along, the updates will deliver specific improvements and new features for each of the two smartphones, so stay tuned to learn more on this. (via)
