30-year-old Richard Macrae, who now lives in the city of Aberdeen in Scotland, has managed to save piles of cash over the past few years simply by pulling out a “ginger discount” card when visiting bars, cinemas, or restaurants.

The man, who works as a comic book illustrator, goes on to say that, every once in a while, he likes to flash this card at cab drivers. More often than not, he ends up paying less for the ride.

“The International Council of Gingers. Richard Fuzz Macrae, Certified Ginger,” this card reads. Check out the photo accompanying this article to have a close look at it.

In case anyone was wondering, this card is a fake one. Richard Macrae got it from his brother 4 years ago, on his birthday, and admits that he has been using it as a legitimate “ginger discount” card ever since.

“People have always given me stick for my hair color, but now I'm going out three nights a week and saving a fortune. The joke's on them,” 30-year-old Richard Macrae told the press in an interview, as cited by Mirror.

“I ask if they do the ginger discount, and when they look confused I slide across my card. I've saved a couple of hundred pounds maybe, with money off booze, taxis, food and club entries - over four years it fairly builds up,” he went on to explain.

Although some have proven gullible enough to think that the card is real, the majority realize that the “ginger discount” card is fake as soon as the 30-year-old pulls it out of his wallet and starts waving it around.

Whenever the card is exposed as being fake, Richard either gets asked to leave, or finds that his card is entertaining enough to land him a discount in exchange for having stirred some giggles, media reports say.

“I used to serve Richard and his friends regularly they were good customers and a great laugh. The first time I saw the ginger discount card I thought it was brilliant and gave him the same discount that we would for students just because it looked so real,” said a 30-year-old barman named Rik Gillespie.

Now that his face and photos of his “ginger discount” card are plastered all over social media, chances are that 30-year-old Richard Macrae will never again get to fool anybody that he is entitled to a discount simply because he has red hair.
