14 DAY TRIAL // The self contained application bundle part of the GNU Image Manipulation Program for Mac known as GIMP has been updated to version 2.4.7. The popular open source image editor now includes over a dozen code fixes. GIMP is free to download and use, and requires X11 to run.
With the release of Gimp 2.4, the development team has slapped a fresh new look on the program, adding new functionality as well, such as scalable brushes, new selection tools, an align tool, some menu changes, improved display while zooming, and support for additional file formats. Full screen editing has also been added for professional photographers, as well as color management and soft-proofing, to allow precise color modification throughout the whole 'digital darkroom' process.
A new crop tool is also available in Gimp 2.4, while printing has been largely improved (GIMP makes use of the advancements in the gtk printing API so that you can control all aspects of the printout with an easy to understand interface and immediate preview).
A new Perspective Clone Tool has been added to GIMP, with the latest version release, to make it easy to perform cloning while taking the perspective of an image into account. Lens Distortion is also a very common problem emerging especially when using cheaper lens or expensive lens pushed to their limits. It is also known as "barrel distortion" and "vignetting". GIMP now provides a brand new filter to compensate for both problems, saving photographers' money in the process.
With the release of Gimp 2.4.7, the latest stable version available, more tweaks and enhancements have been included, some of which are listed after the break.
