This was even before talk of Trinity became more than random hearsay

Advanced Micro Devices managed to get the long end of the stick in graphics sales during the first quarter of the year (2012).

Sure, laptop chip shipments dipped about 2%, but desktop APUs (accelerated processing units) managed an 84% jump. Jon Peddie Research says so anyway.

Coupled with boosts of 4% to desktop GPUs and an 8% climb in notebook graphics, this all enabled a 0.3% improvement to the overall graphics market share, leading to a nice 25%.

Keep in mind that this was before Trinity even came around, so we can only guess how things will go from here.

We won't speculate much, but we will point out that the Sunnyvale, California-based company has recently brought out the R-Series embedded chips, so the customer base has only increased.

We'd say this is it for the good news, but it would be a lie, since the market analyst firm was actually happy with the overall evolution of the graphics segment too, but we'll get to that in a while.
