The world's largest chest of drawers is located in High Point, North Carolina, and was created as a monument to highlight the city’s status as “Home Furnishings Capital of the World.”

Initially known as the Bureau of Information, the giant dresser was built in 1926 by the High Point Chamber of Commerce. In 1996, the building was completely restored and converted into a 38-foot (11.59-meter) tall Goddard-Townsend chest. It now houses the offices for the humanitarian organization High Point Jaycees.

According to Amusing Planet, a real chest was used as a prototype to create the facade of the imposing building, which is adorned with knobs, floral decoration and two gigantic socks dangling from a drawer.

However, not one, but two giant chests of drawers can be found in the city, as furniture company Furnitureland South built another colossal monument: a dresser more than 80 feet (24.4-meter) tall. However, this creation is not a freestanding structure, but an elaborate storefront attached to a big furniture shop.

If people in High Point continue with the trend, we might soon see houses and other buildings shaped like chairs, beds, cabinets or drawers. Imagine what the city would look like; it will probably resemble a gigantic home, while all residents will look like Lilliputians.
