14 DAY TRIAL // Computer maker Gigabyte is one of the companies that aims at entering the mobile phone market with devices powered by Google's Android operating system, and now the specifications and some photos with the first such handset from Gigabyte emerged into the wild. The phone is set to arrive within the company's GSmart series of handsets, with a rather affordable price tag, and some familiar looks.
Starting with the specifications list, we should mention that the Gigabyte GSmart Android phone is expected to arrive on the market with a Qualcomm MSM7225 528 MHz processor inside, coupled with 192 MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM, while also including a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.
The mobile phone's display is said to be a 2.8-inch touchscreen that boasts a 240 x 320 pixel (QVGA) resolution, and there should be a 2-megapixel photo snapper that sports auto focus. At the same time, the handset is also expected to include Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) capabilities, Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB connectivity, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
When launched on the market, the Gigabyte GSmart Android device should run under the 1.6 flavor of Google's operating system, should boast GSM 900/1800 MHz (EDGE) connectivity, built-in GPS receiver with AGPS, G-Sensor, and a 1200 mAh battery inside. All in all, the specs don't place this handset at the higher end of the market, but don't make it something to throw away either.
Especially since the price tag it should come to the market with is pretty decent at 9,000 rubles (about $300 US), according to mobile-review (via UnwiredView). The new mobile phone is expected to arrive on shelves sometimes in February or March, it seems, and should prove a direct competitor against HTC's Tattoo device.
