The AMD 890GX chipset was brought into existence in order to provide the chip maker's upcoming six-core Thuban central processing unit with a working platform. Naturally, the company's partners have been working on implementing the technology in their motherboards, with models expected to debut at this year's CeBIT expo. Among these hardware makers is Gigabyte, whose GA-890GPA-UD3H has already been officially detailed.

The company's motherboard has been known for a short while, having already been listed on Newegg. The new board will support AM3 processors and is enabled by the 890GX / SB850 chip combo. The product also has four DDR3-1866+ memory slots, two PCI Express x16 slots and support for CrossFireX or Hybrid CrossFire configurations.

In addition, the motherboard has its own integrated graphics, namely the ATI Radeon HD 4290 IGP. This GPU is backed by 128MB of SidePort DDR3 memory and its 700MHz clock can be pushed up to 1150MHz. In these conditions, Gigabyte claims, a 3DMark06 benchmark yields a score of 3,300 or more, namely 18% higher than the IGB of the previous-generation AMD 790GX chipset.

Other specs of the card include two SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, two USB 3.0 ports, six SATA 6.0 Gbps connectors, FireWire, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 channel audio, and D-Sub, DVI and HDMI outputs. The card even features DualBIOS.

"Giving users power over their high-definition content is really at the heart of what the GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H is all about," Tim Handley, deputy director of Motherboard Marketing at GIGABYTE Technology Co. Ltd., commented. "Not only does the GA-890GPA-UD3H deliver the industry's highest performing integrated graphics solution with flawless HD video playback, but enabling SATA 6 Gbps with RAID functionality, USB 3.0 support and GIGABYTE 3x Power Boost means that users are able to spend less time waiting for their content to transfer, and more time to actually enjoy it."

Last week, the price that accompanied the listing of this mainboard was of $140. Now, however, the price is unspecified.
