Motherboard maker Gigabyte has recently announced that select motherboards based on the Intel Z68 chipset can have their warranty upgraded to as much as six years by simply registering the product on the company's website.

Usually, Gigabyte boards come with a two-year warranty, upgradeable to three years, but this is the first time that the Taiwanese company offers such an extensive assurance for any of its products.

This warranty upgrade is not available for all of Gigabyte's Z68-based motherboards, but only for a few select high-end models and the warranty extension varies according to the board model.

For example, the Gigabyte GA-DS4 Z68XP features a four-year warranty, the GA-Z68XP UD5 five years, while the GA-Z68X UD7 B3 can benefit from a six-year warranty.

The GA-Z68X UD7 B3 is also Gigabyte's most advanced Intel Z68 solution as it sports support for 2-way and 3-way SLI and CrossFireX setups, has a 24-phase power design and no less than six USB 3.0 ports.

The warranty extension was announced officially only in Germany, but other parts of the world are also expected to benefit from this offer.

According to ComputerBase, German users who have bought one of the Intel Z68 boards to be included in this program, have to download and fill out a document that is available on the company's website.

Once this task is completed, the document has to be sent either by fax or e-mail to the manufacturer together with a proof of purchase for the warranty to be extended.

Gigabyte features one of the most impressive Intel Z68 motherboard collections (no less than 17 models), as the company was quick to embrace this chipset and use it to develop a wide range of alternatives to the P67 boards they already had in their arsenal at that time.
