The 8-series mainboard is a mainstream product with better audio than most

Since motherboards follow certain guidelines when it comes to CPU, memory and add-in graphics capabilities, to qualify as entry-level, mid-range and high-end products, there aren't many facets where unique perks can be sneaked in.

That doesn't mean it's impossible, though. Case in point, the Gigabyte H81.AMP-UP has “outstanding audio features never seen before on an mainstream platform motherboard.”

In fact, it is one of the first motherboards to feature an onboard operational amplifier (OP-Amp), which is usually found only on high-end models.

It is an upgradeable element, mounted on a socket that allows for OP-Amps to be switched around. OP-Amps provide exclusive USB DAC-UP, for delivering noise-less USB power for digital-to-analog converters, switches to boost overall gain levels, high-end Nichicon capacitors, etc.

Gain Boost is another technology worth mentioning, allowing buyers to select between 2.5x and 6x amplification modes depending on output device.

Then there's the gold-plated USB 2.0 port, which reduces fluctuations that would otherwise taint sound with noise.

Add to that BIOS configuration options for the USB DAC-UP and you can build a very high-fidelity audio system.

"The GIGABYTE H81.AMP-UP is like no other motherboard currently available, addressing the important market of audio enthusiasts that don't necessarily require high-end PC gaming features," commented Henry Kao, vice president of GIGABYTE Motherboard Business Unit.

"Delivering a potent combination of our exclusive audio technologies, and backed by our signature Ultra Durable design philosophy, the GIGABYTE H81.AMP-UP has certainly upped the ante in terms of must have features for mainstream H81 motherboards."

There are many other elements that make Gigabyte's H81.AMP-UP a better PC motherboard than most other mainstream products. Examples are Ultra Durable 4 Plus components, DualBIOS, advanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for LAN and USB, four more USB 3.0 ports than usual, HDMI/DisplayPort outputs, etc. You'll find them all, and more, on the product page.
